Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture is at least 3,000-year-old form of medicine that has been used by millions of people around the world and continues to do so.

During a treatment very thin, solid, hairlike, needles are inserted at a specific point on the body.

The stimulation of these acupuncture points affects the body’s central and peripheral nervous system.

It triggers the release of the body’s internal chemicals such as endorphins and enkephalins, which have pain-relieving properties.

The following happens:

  1. Increases Blood circulation to anywhere in the body
  2. Re-trains Your Brain to heal itself

At The Natural Medicine Nutrition Clinic, QRA we use distal Acupuncture almost exclusively (which means we do not needle where you have pain) which allows us to produce quick results for our patients, it is not uncommon to have instantaneous pain and symptom relief.

Acupuncture is performed with the patient reclining in a recliner and or Acupuncture bed and the pins are inserted in the arms, legs, scalp, or ears.

The treatments are efficient, comfortable, relaxing, and extremely effective.

Herbal Medicine

We use organic granule herbs in the clinic, which are batch tested to be free of impurities like heavy metals, herbicides and pesticides. They are derived from plants and prescribed in a measured dose which is made into a tea and drunk usually twice daily.

Herbs do several things; they assist in helping the blood flow to organs so the body can repair itself. They also increase the body to transport oxygen in the bloodstream and contain many vitamins, minerals and cofactors. This makes the blood stronger and assists the body to heal faster.

Herbs are different from vitamin and mineral therapy and are prescribed to suit the needs of the individual. The herbal formula can be adjusted for the patient individually, as the formula often changes as the patients’ symptoms improve. Herbs can be added or subtracted to benefit a patient’s new symptoms, or treat both the underlying cause of the condition, as well as the symptoms the patient experiences. That is what makes them unique.

We do not use animal products in our formulas, and side effects of herbs tend to be minimal. They do not replace a lost function of the body like some western medications do, instead they assist the body to heal by restoring correct blood flow to internal organs.

While it is possible for some adverse reactions to occur, this is very seldom. Herbs are never prescribed without a full case history being taken. Most patients experience the best benefit from using both Acupuncture and herbs together in a complete treatment plan (which we call a care plan).

Prevention of Chronic Diseases

A balanced and nutritious diet is essential in preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Consuming a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats can contribute to overall health and reduce the risk of these diseases.

Immune Heath

Proper nutrition is vital for maintaining a healthy immune system. Nutrient deficiencies, such as those in vitamins and minerals, can compromise the immune response, making individuals more susceptible to infections and illnesses.

Our practitioners do a thorough analysis of all factors involved with immune health and use pathology tests where required to ascertain the role that nutritional deficiencies may be playing.

Diet, nutritional supplementation and herbal medicine are used where necessary to help build a robust immune system to get you and your kids back on your feet feeling great again.

Management of Existing Conditions

Nutrition plays a key role in managing various medical conditions. For example, individuals with diabetes need to manage their carbohydrate intake, while those with hypertension may benefit from education and counselling we provide.

Nutrition therapy is often used to customize diets for individuals with specific health conditions.

Inflammation and Autoimmune Diseases

Certain foods can either contribute to or help mitigate inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is associated with various diseases, including autoimmune conditions.

A diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, such as omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, may be beneficial in managing these conditions.

Weight Management

Obesity is a significant risk factor for various health issues, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Nutrition, along with physical activity, plays a crucial role in weight management.

A balanced diet and proper portion control are essential components of a healthy weight maintenance plan.

Gut Health

The health of the gastrointestinal tract is closely linked to overall well-being. Nutrition influences the composition of the gut microbiota, and an imbalance in gut bacteria has been associated with conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and even mental health issues.

Leading a busy stressful lifestyle, alcohol intake, antibiotic use, certain medications, family history, food sensitivities and allergies along with inadequate nutritional intake are just some of the factors which may impact your digestive system and your ability to absorb nutrients.

Bone Health

Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is crucial for maintaining strong and healthy bones. A deficiency in these nutrients can lead to conditions such as osteoporosis.

Our practitioners work with all of our patients to help educate them how to age well. Ensuring good bone density, a healthy weight, reducing inflammatory markers.

Cognitive Function

Research suggests that nutrition may play a role in cognitive function and the risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Diets rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients have a potential cognitive benefit.

Conditions we treat

Nerve Problems

Neurological conditions are those that involve damages in the nervous system. The nervous system manages all the body’s movements and functions. We can think of the nervous system as our body’s command center. Without it, we would not be able to eat, walk, talk, move, or function at all.

The nervous system consists of the:

  • Brain
  • Spinal cord
  • All peripheral nerves

An impairment in any one of these areas can lead to a neurological disorder.

Symptoms

Although the symptoms of a neurological disorder can vary based on the condition, the following symptoms are often assisted with Acupuncture.

  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Burning
  • Altered sensation
  • Pins and Needles

Acupuncture does two things

It moves blood. Needle insertion sends a signal to the brain to open blood vessels and increase blood flow to specific organs or areas of the body.

  1. It retrains the brain. Once the brain has been retrained the treatment is gradually tapered off and the patient’s body has been reminded how to heal itself and treatment is no longer required.
  2. Neurological conditions can be greatly assisted by using Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Depending on the condition, Nutrition may also be recommended. If you want to find out more, click the link below and let us help you heal your body!

Neurology and nerve damage

Both Acupuncture and Nutrition can be powerful medicines to assist in reversing nerve damage from cancer treatment, diabetes, nerve impingement.

If the nerve is affected from a result of poor nutrition (like type 2 diabetes) we have nutrition plans to help reverse this.

If the nerve damage is from any other cause, we will usually have some type of Acupuncture treatment to increase the blood supply to the affected body area which allows the body to heal itself.

Chronic Pain

At the Natural Medicine Nutrition Clinic, we have successfully helped thousands of individuals heal their bodies.

Our approach combines ancient acupuncture techniques, specifically Distal Needling.

This style of acupuncture places needles away from the site of pain or discomfort. For example, we’ll often choose points in the feet to treat headaches. We love this style of Acupuncture because of how FAST it works.

With distal needling, we are placing needles in areas of dense nervous tissue. This provides signals to the brain via the central nervous system to release endogenous opioids (natural pain-killing chemicals) to stimulate blood flow to the site of pain. We always employ a more nuanced approach to address underlying issues and promote holistic well-being.

Chronic pain can affect mood, sleep and mental health, sometimes leading to anxiety or depression. We also use organic Chinese Herbal Medicine in conjunction with Acupuncture as, which assists in giving faster, longer lasting results.

Chinese Herbal Medicine can be modified to suit the needs of the individual, this is always done in a care plan to give our patients the fastest results in the shortest possible time.

It also increases the body’s ability to transport oxygen in the bloodstream and contain many vitamins, minerals and cofactors. This makes the blood stronger and assists the body to heal faster.

HOW IT WORKS

Initial Exam

Discovering what lies ahead and where to begin is essential on your path to heal your body.

Our streamlined 3-step process is designed to guide you towards the pain-free lifestyle you deserve. Our experienced practitioners take the time to understand your unique health history, lifestyle, and specific concerns. We use our expertise to identify potential areas of imbalance or energy blockages in your body, which are crucial factors in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Follow steps 1 to 3

1

Initial Examination

Our top priority is figuring out WHY your body is not healing itself and an Initial Examination will help us determine how much function we will be able to help you restore.

2

Rate of Response Plan

This step is about confirming that your body will respond to Acupuncture and determine how fast or how slow will it respond to Acupuncture. This maybe 3 to 6 sessions in a week.

3

Care Plan

We will customise a care plan to help you achieve your Health Goals and restore function. The care plan will be based on your rate of response to Acupuncture from step 2.

Note: Acupuncture, Herbs, Nutritional Supplements, Diet Diary and Diet Plan will be included in your Care Plan.

Reviews

“My hands are my livelihood, and Ben really understands this. I honestly wasn’t expecting such a brilliant result with the arthritic pain in such a short space of time, but I’ve gone from severe pain to feeling normal in the space of a week. Looking forward to the long term results.”

Andy Kahle

“After enduring 6 months of significant pain due to arthritis in my hands I decided to give acupuncture a go. I didn’t know what to expect and was surprised when Dr Ben addressed the issue by putting pins in my feet! Going from 8/10 pain to 3/10 within minutes was amazing.

After 4 visits I went from not being able to clench a fist to clicking my fingers with no pain at all. I wouldn’t have believed it was possible if I hadn’t experienced it for myself. After years of blindly taking whatever pill was prescribed for me I now know there are other methods and natural herbs to assist my body in healing itself.

Thanks Dr Ben for showing me how the right food choices can have a significant impact on my health and well-being”

Mike Booth

“I first came to see Ben about an ankle injury that I had been having treatment for by a physiotherapist. Despite still being in discomfort the physio felt that there was not much more that could be done.

The thing that stood out immediately was that Ben asked so many questions, not just about my ankle, but about how my body was functioning overall. This is a sizable difference when compared to doctors and physios who are more focused on the symptoms regarding a specific injury as opposed to fixing the body as a whole.

Within a week of 3 treatments my ankle had repaired itself and the pain was gone. More importantly to me was what Ben has been able to achieve in a short time with respect to my nervous system. I was totally burnt out and had trouble sleeping, fast heartbeat and just generally stressed out. Within a week of treatment, with the combination of acupuncture and herbs, I was falling asleep straight away and my feelings of nervousness/stress had significantly declined.

At each appointment Ben keeps asking questions so that he can make adjustments to what he works on so that instead of a one size fits all response it is very bespoke to me. His knowledge of how the body works and where different pain points relate to different issues in the body is amazing. He also always explains why he does what he does and what he is working on. I could not recommend Ben highly enough.”

Paula Harkness

“As someone who struggles with chronic headaches for a very long time and has tried (almost) every treatment under the sun, I was keen to give acupuncture a go.

Ben is exceptionally knowledgeable and he really takes the time to explain everything in great detail. I have only been seeing Ben for a couple of months and can, with great confidence, say that my headaches have improved significantly. This is not something I take for granted as I have never experienced such lasting results.

I highly recommend Ben at The Natural Medicine and Nutrition Clinic for all things acupuncture and Chinese medicine and it is a delight to always be greeted with Angee’s big smile and friendly service. Thanks guys!”

Marizanne Roos

“I first met Ben when I was receiving osteopathy care from his mother Rosemary. Ben assisted to loosen up my body so she could work her magic. During these “warm ups” Ben and I talked about all sorts of stuff and I always felt I could just be myself and communicate anything to him.

When I recently experienced a “frightening change”, there was no-one else I wanted to see but Ben. I knew his experience with Chinese herbs and nutrition would sort me out.

I got more than I bargained for, because Ben took the time and care to help me understand the basics of my digestive system, so I really understood exactly what I was experiencing and what we needed to do as a priority. I had one acupuncture treatment and immediately implemented the dietary change, and in less than a week I have improved so much I know I will be back to even better than usual health very quickly.

This knowledge and dietary advice is what I needed to know moving into the future. Finally I know what my body needs and it’s so simple to implement.

I thoroughly recommend seeing Ben for any ailment as a FIRST step. If he doesn’t think he can help you, he won’t string you along either!”

Alix Jordan

“Ben’s combination of Eastern / traditional medicines and Western qual’s gave me the confidence to try acupuncture for the first time. Having hit rock-bottom in my cancer recovery, he provided me with a solid foundation on which to start to rebuild my energies, health, capacity and wellbeing.

It was always a pleasure to come in and see both Ben and Angee. Thank you both for your help and genuine care and support! I will continue to recommend you to others and will return myself in future. All the very very best to you both.”
